The Foreign Office agree as to the

desirability of getting the proposed arrangement

as regards British subjects extended to British

protected persons. As regards the proposal to

terminate the extension of Chinese nationality after the third (or alternatively the fourth)

generation, they point out that this has already

been considered and the idea has been

rejected. As to the suggestion that the grant of British naturalisation should automatically

carry with it loss of Chinese nationality, the
